Gifting our TC

What gifts have you purchased for your TC during these hectic days of shopping? In the comfort of our home, I ordered 2 camping chairs, 2 dual USB chargers to plug into 12 volt outlets, portable wireless speaker for iPod/iPhone, portable adjustable easel with drawer for sketching while camping, a mummy liner for our sleeping bags, and several books for finding new adventures: ghost towns, rockhounding and trails.

What about you?

    Steve,

As you look at pose solutions for your camper, do consider Sterling Power in Droitwich. They make a number of supremely useful products for campers; our Malayan Tiger uses their Alternator to Battery charger. (http://www.sterling-power.com/images/datasheets/A%20to%20B%20low%20res.pdf)

That is a very nice Tiger you've got there.

And a very impressive looking battery and charging system too.

Basically that is the extreme version of the DC to DC charger I have - same principal - a switch-mode power supply that trades off amps for volts to produce the ideal charging voltage at any point in time. Just looking at that datasheet they clearly cater for some serious applications - trains, airport fire trucks, etc.

    Thanks for sharing.

First tests indicate that it performs as advertised:
  • Not up on the latest technology.Still have my flip phone. But figured an I-Pad will be a start .Got the I-Pad Air for two weeks now. Loaded about 15 apps geared towards camping ,boating, hiking ect. Going to attend upcoming classes on using it to the fullest.Downloaded kindle, now reading books, havnt read a book in years.Reading sea survival stories, adrift true story about Stephen Callahan survived near 70 days in raft after whale sunk his boat.Looking forward to using I-Pad traveling next season.
  • My multi-stage battery charger died (OK, well I dropped it and broke it) so I ordered a new CTEK charger. Only after it arrived did it occur to me that I could use this in the camper. The converter in my camper is useless so I don't ever use it (it produces something like 17v of very noisy DC) so I am always relying on the solar to charge the batteries through a CTEK DC-to-DC "max power point tracker" charger.

so this new charger comes with an easy disconnect so you can permanently wire a connector and temperature gauge onto your camper battery and alternate between plugging the charger into that, or unplugging it, plugging in to the crocodile clips instead and charging vehicles. So what was meant as a simple replacement is now also a gift to the camper.

  • I buy everything for my TC either on Ebay, Amazon, or on-line. I wouldnt be caught dead going into any local stores this time of year. Of course, I dont go into many store locally any time of the year. Ive been spoiled with the computer and how easy it is, and cheaper, to buy online. With 65 mods done to my TC, Ive spent a bunch of money, it just didnt go into the local economy.

Nothing yet, I agree. I stay away from stores at this time of year , and its getting to be the time of year I try not to have things shipped to me either
I was in your town in 06` picking a camper up at Foley Rv , nice place , I liked the dump stations that gas stations had there. very rv frendly , saw quite a few TC`s
Didn`t Foley Rv turn into a Camping world after that ?
  • I am not a huge consumer, either, as I deplore the mass hysteria that is holiday shopping. But, these are items I was going to buy anyway to enhance our camping experience and all were on sale, warehouse items or used. I have NEVER shopped at walmart, buy our clothes at Value Village/Goodwill/garage sales and grow most of our fruits and veggies. But, these were smaller items that will make our camping more fun, simpler and more comfortable. Happy holidays.
  • not a dang thing, of course I don't play the November, December mass buying spree game either. I fix things when they break, I add stuff when I discover a need vs a want.
