Hopefully the plant and jobs are coming back to the US.
Good chance they won't. Chances are that GM will drop building big sedans, maybe all sedans like Ford and maybe Chrysler.
The Chevy Impala sales have been dropping rapidly the past few years. I have a 2015 Chevy Impala and it's an excellent car and was built in Oshawa. I also have a 2007 Buick LaCrosse that was built at the Oshawa plant and it's engine (Buick 90 degree 3800 V6) was built in Flint, Michigan.
The Oshawa plant has been ranked as one of the top quality plants of any manufacture, for a number of years. If GM is just going to shutter the plant completely, then I wonder if this was their intention when both the federal Canadian government and the provincial Ontario government bailed them out in Canada during the 2008 financial crisis. Some of my federal tax money went to GM. Canada worked alongside the USA in the huge bailout of GM.
I have been a GM customer since 1968 buying GM cars built in both the USA and Canada. I have bought vehicles about 95 % +, that were built in North America to support North Americans during those 50 years. I just (less than 2 weeks ago) bought a set of Goodyear all weather tires, built in the USA for quite a few bucks.
It has been a two way street up to now, but if this at an end, then I may assess my buying habits of a lifetime. Over the years, my buying philosophy has been to support North American companies and workers, but it has to be a two way street.
Many don't know but Canada and the USA have been each other's largest trading partners for many, many years.
Fair trade works well for both our countries. We both have a better standard of living as a result.
