- deweysmith5ExplorerSounds like a rather easy conversion since these engines are already offered in the international market:
"While it’s unclear if the 2015 Colorado and Canyon will feature both the 2.5L and 2.8L diesel motors featured in the international-spec Colorado sold around the world currently, it will be one or both of these motors that the trucks will utilize. The smaller 2.5L Duramax mill produces 150 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the more powerful 2.8L turbodiesel that promises 180 hp and a stout 346 lb-ft of torque, in the international Colorado." - fly-boyExplorerBet we will see a lot of Canyons with 300k miles going down the road in 15-20 years if "they get it right."
I won't drive anything but a pickup- just love the convenience of always having space. I am really entertaining the idea of just keeping the current big truck and buying a smaller daily driver pickup.
A Canyon would be an even better option for me than a 1/2 ton! I am really happy to see all of these diesel options coming out! - deweysmith5ExplorerIf I remember correctly it was a V6 but I have slept since then. (Can't imagine a 4.5L V8 anyway). All of the Big 3 were rushing to get the market on light duty diesels. I am sure they all were struggling with some issues. The "band aid" as I call it was an adequate fix but I am sure that any delay would nave seen an improvement in regards to the original problem.

Was the 4.5 a V6? GM has a track record of launching even when they know there is an issue. R700 is one example, an two engines.

I bet it will sell well. Good move GM
I wonder if whats his name already has one :W
Are you speaking of the one that had a brand spanking new Ram 2500HD before they ever came out, or referring to someone else:) - 45RicochetExplorerI bet it will sell well. Good move GM
I wonder if whats his name already has one :W - deweysmith5ExplorerBefore I retired from GM one of the major products I was working on was a 4.5L diesel for the 1500 line of trucks. I was heavily involved as a engineering liaison between the product engineers and the assembly plant. This diesel had a couple of (in my view) major design flaws that were being band aided but when GM, along with Ford and Chrysler, announced they were dropping their light duty diesel programs I was both disappointed and elated. Disappointed because they were being dropped but elated because a delay would give GM time to work out the flaws, if GM would pick up the program again. I am disappointed that the Colorado/Canyon is getting the diesel and not the 1500. The 4.5L diesel showed in testing to have a lot of promise.
- bradykExplorerIf they did it right I would have interest. Go to work vehicle up and down the freeway one end to the other each day, grocery getter, Home Depot here and there, going fishing and take the small fishing boat and with real decent mileage I would find a use for it. Replace my 2500HD it would not but it would potentially have a place in my lifestyle.
- Perrysburg_DodgExplorerWonder how long before they add one to their 1500 line? Ford and GM must be waiting to see how the Ram and now Nissan sell. Adding a diesel to the Canyon line is a smart idea, will open it up to small delivery operations, auto parts and construction deliveries and so on.

Actually-
GM's diesel is in the small Canyon line of trucks- 2.5 or 2.8 liter.
Will be interesting to hear what the numbers are for MPG, HP, Torque...
