Rick - Your stepson needs to start driving more. I had almost 12k miles in the 4 months that I had a 2014 Sierra Double Cab V6. And that did not include the 1600 miles that I used a Volt instead of the Sierra.
Did your stepson have the new V8, and which axle?
If you are driving from China Township, your daily commute is considerably longer than his daily 13 mile round trip...
He does have the V8 but I do not know the axle ratio
