WTH Spoon, so you don't think private industry has been in bed with the Government LONG before this? So you all good with welfare for businesses then?
Don, haven't we had this conversation before??? I know full well that government is in bed with private industry and it irritates me. Just because it happens doesn't mean that I have to like it. I understand the need for safety regulations and oversight, but I am 100% opposed to selectively helping certain industry. We have slowly moved away from capitalism in this country. In the 90's we had Clinton era fair housing acts that forced banks to change how they do business. As a result, and through 20 years of slipping down the slope, we ended up with the mortgage crisis that hurt a lot of banks. This was all due to government sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. Because government screwed it all up in the first place, they felt compelled to try to fix it. Then, as they always do, they failed to realize how their "fixes" would further screw things up. All these banks that got bailed out received money with no instruction that they be required to lend it to help prevent further collapse. Because they didn't lend money, mismanaged companies like GM had no other choice for lending.
I understand HOW it worked... I just absolutely hate WHY it worked that way. Government is not supposed to be involved in free trade within our country. They are taking away the competitive nature that makes capitalism work. We are no longer rewarding those that make a great product for a reasonable price. Instead we are rewarding GM for failing miserably. We are rewarding the banks for taking unnecessary risks with mortgages. We are rewarding the poor with subsidized healthcare.
Where is your government reward for working 30 years in the industry, providing labor to such a massive company? Why would your kid or grandkid push as hard to earn a fair paycheck as you did, when they see that they can just sit back and do nothing and get all the benefits that you WORKED for?
I could literally fill up pages and pages of complaining about the liberal socialism that I think is eroding the foundation of our country. I try to keep the argument relevant to tow vehicles (specifically GM trucks) because that is the topic at hand.
