This is not the first time GM's combined sales exceeded Ford. What's really surprising is how many Chevy trucks outsold Ram compared to the previous numbers.
It really isn't that surprising to me if the rest of the US GM dealers had the same kind of rebates that GM dealers had around here in February. They were offering up to $6,500 of dollars cash back on top of 0% interest for up to 84 months plus no payments for 120 days on 1500s. That is pretty deep.
So when there's a spike in sales that must mean that manufacturer is giving big discounts...etc...
No, I never said that. I just noticed huge incentives on GMs in February.
I know you didn't... That's my conclusion.
But there are multiple reasons why there would be a spike in sales for a truck manufacturer. At Ford, one of the big ones was fleet sales especially government that operated on fiscal calendar budgets so you would get a huge uptick when they purchased. This also has an adverse effect on Numbers which is what I think Ford is going through since they do way more fleet sales than the other two and this is an election year which is usually a time fleets hold on to their equipment because who is elected dictates regulations. Ford sales are still solid, but they are down versus previous years because they do not have these major fleet sales at the moment. Another reason for an uptick would be a new engine or new upgrade along with a new model.
I don't recall a big spike in Ford trucks sales for quite some time. I recall them having a moderate and consistent sales increase with the exception of this first quarter, strikes and supply chain problems.
