The SAE J2807 is a testing procedure and a test by GM may be in compliance with J2807 but a vehicle cannot be said to be in compliance. I would expect someone who is paid to write for a trade publication would be more intelligent - and obviously be wrong.
A number of tests have been done and published in print and online for trucks that used the J2807 guidelines, such as the ones by etrailer.com in 2011 and the one by Car and Driver done in April of 2012.
I don't think it was a coincidence that deficiencies noted in the Ram and Ford trucks was corrected by the following model year. Bad press can be good for customers.
