Thinking about upgrading my 2500hd to a 3500hd. Something around a 2010 or a 2011 would by 6 liter gas,4x4,extended cab a 8ft box for better camper choices,Thinking something like a 9'-6 Bigfoot as we do a lot of sking etc.Thinking about Alaska and across Canada.Trying to get a straight answer on what it can carry legally for a camper.My 2500hd says 2200lb in the glove box sticker and we are close to my Gvw of 9200lbs when my old 8ft is on it with the dog and wife. and its is real old school basic.Somebody out there as one for sure.Thanks

The only way your going to have much more GVRW is with a 3500 DRW.

You have to remember that TC have center of gravity way back, so it is safe to assume that all camper weigh will go on the rear axle, while in some instances like my 11.5 Fleetwood the camper will take the weight off front axle and add it to the rear. So I am with Deb that on long run if you want camper longer than 8', DRW is the way to go,

I have to disagree with both posters. If you go from a 2010 or earlier to a 2011 3500 single rear wheel you will almost double your payload. GM completely re designed the truck in 2011. My payload is about 4k. The same as what the DRW 2010 3500. I have no trouble at all hauling my 11'6" camper with my SRW truck. Check my profile. Do some research you will find this to be correct. In fact mine is a diesel with a gasser you could probably come up with even more payload.

I see you are in BC. I believe what your truck can carry legally based on the glove box sticker applies only to BC. It is my understanding only BC uses the door decal or glove box sticker for determining the maximum weight. If loading your TC takes weight off of the front axle, your CG is incorrect. It will have a negative impact on your steering, how negative depends on how much weight is removed from the front axle.

2013 GMC SRW 3500 with 6.0 gas 4.10 rear. 4k payload.

My Fleetwood seems to be a bit unique with holding tanks under rear bumper and generator and propane tanks in the rear as well.
Also I put the trailer 16" behind the cabin to have cargo space.
Obviously I am not driving with full holding tanks very often and diesel engine is giving enough load on front axle to not create problems.
Still something you should remember when loading TC.

Not sure on the Chevys, but my 15 Ram 3500 SRW is just a few hundred lbs less GVW than my 03 DRW.
The 3500 Ram LB SRW has a GVW of 12,300 and over 4k lbs payload.
You should have many options.
Your limitation will be your tires. Address that and enjoy!

We keep saying that on forum and this keeps getting away from the attention.
GVW is a number fabricated for tax/fee purpose and is VERY loosely related to vehicle capabilities.
Use actual axle ratings for real life calculations.
