We (my wife and I) will be upgrading our rig next year (when I retire) from a 24' TT to a 29' or 30' TT. Will also be trading in my 2016 GMC Canyon (3.6 ltr. v-6) for a diesel full size truck.
My first choice is the GMC 2500 SLT with the 6.6 Duramax diesel w/ the Allison 6-speed transmission. Lately, I have been seriously considering the 2017 Nissan Titan XD with the 5.0 liter Cummins diesel. The Duramax has the Cummins beat, both on Hp ( 397 to 310 ) as well as torque (910 ft lbs to 550 ft. lbs). The TT that we are considering has a GVWR. of 8254 lbs and a hitch weight of 754 lbs.
Has anyone had experience with the Titan XD with the Cummins diesel? A lot of people I know have the GM Duramax and absolutely love it. Does anyone have a Titan XD and what do you thing about it?
I have a Titan XD SV 4x2 pulling a 28ft Jayco 28RBS. It has a loaded hitch weight of 950lbs and the XD handles it very well. The XD is very heavy, mine is 6900lbs but that weight makes it incredibly stable as a tow vehicle more so than my 06 2500 Silverado EC. There are quite a few XD owners that are towing over its rated GVWR and RAWR and claim it does so well but I wouldn't do it. Where the Titan falls short of current 3/4 trucks is the 6 lug hubs/ axles and soft rear springs. The SV has a payload of 1900lbs but beware the higher trim levels and 4x4s have 300-500lbs less. I have had no major issues with my XD but have only had it for 3 months now so time will tell. The ride is very smooth and quiet, fuel mileage is 20.5 mpg highway and 17.8 combo.
In my opinion if $ is not an issue get the Duramax. For the money I paid for the XD($33.2K) I'm very happy with it and it's capabilities but if you can't steal one go to a true 3/4 ton. If you have any questions shoot me a message and I'll try and answer best I can.
Great deal, congrats. It's a whole lot of truck for 33.2k in 2016 money, let me tell you. Enjoy many happy miles in her.
