- N-TroubleExplorerPersonally what I would really like to see happen in the HD diesel segment is improvements to the emission systems that are currently plaguing the reliability of these trucks as well as killing fuel mileage. Alternatives to DPFs and lowering the total cost of ownership of diesel engines would get my attention. A few more HP/TQ means nothing to me as I can easily get that and some with a tuner...

Buy a GM if you want but I have a feeling they are about to file bankruptcy again. Also they have been known to not back up there warranty. Who cares about these wars. My Ram has 370 hp and 800lb of torque. That is more than I need. They are going to keep on and these little trucks will have as much torque as a semi. Just crazy if you ask me. And by the way there is only one true diesel out there in my mind and it is an inline 6 called a Cummins. There is a reason they use it in the bigger trucks. Real diesels are inline 6, not V8.
Let's not forget the Cummins is a Medium duty engine and the other two are light duty.
Eeeh come on... And what exactly makes one medium vs light? - N-TroubleExplorer

Those duramax trucks seem to still match or beat the completion even with lower numbers. Sometimes numbers can be all hype.
Not if you check out any recent comparison tests. They are dead last.
The D/A combo is still a good one, but the power numbers need an upgrade.
And which independent test(s) would you be referring to??? - Cummins12V98Explorer III

At some point longevity is going to suffer, all this power will reduce the life of all these engines.
you really need to watch H&S' dyno videos to see how much power is needed to gernade a ford/gm powertrain.
Fuel burn fuel burn fuel burn in total pounds is the only measure of engine life not miles like advertisers would have you believe.
unless you over rev or over fuel nothing will melt or 'grenade '.
But the miles don't matter so much as total fuel burn ,the harder its used and more it consumes
the shorter the life. - larry_barnhartExplorer

I will keep my money and continue to drive an old 2005 duramax that is underpowered and out of date. If you have 65000 to 70000 to blow on the latest and greatest, be my guess. I need a good laugh.
Having new hoses installed on our old 05 out dated awesome truck today. Problem is it will cost as much as this truck was brand new almost.

parkersdad,
In your mind the only true diesel? It's because your mind in tightly closed and brainwashed and been blinded by your own lack of knowledge. Is an inline 6 the only true diesel? Better not say that to Cummins because they make the V8 diesel that's going into a couple new pickups! Must not be a true diesel then? Hello!
The Duramax 6.6 diesel V8 has now been made and sold in GM trucks with nearly the same number of their diesel engines as Cummins has in Dodge/Rams and has done it in about 1/2 the years it took Cummins in Dodge/Rams. You need to do a little research and actually learn something. Just think how smart and actually informed you could be!
Like I said I will not!!!!!!!! Buy a Chevrolet. I had a truck I got the lemon law on and I am done with them. All I am saying about real diesel is an inline 6 makes it's power down lower than the V8 motors and is a more sturdy design. The bore and stroke is a lot longer so that naturally makes more power down low. Also I'm talking about diesels in 25 and 3500 trucks not all diesels. - goducks10Explorer

Why????

The Dmax is down on power compared to the 14 Ram and 15 Ford. Last time they tested all 3 Ram had the lowest power. Now Chevy is the lowest and likely to get beat by Ford and Ram.
I know all of the deal but why was isn't what GM has to offer enough. I don't see many rv owners going very slow where we travel and I have never felt our power wasn't enough but I don't race when towing. It will be interesting. I guess cummins doesn't agree about the inline engine being the only engine to buy or sell.
chevman
It's all for marketing. I totally agree that they have plenty of power. More than needed really. But you can't run ads saying you can tow this or that without having the power or suspension. Not bashing GM at all. It's just a cyclical thing. Very rarely do all 3 upgrade at the same time. This latest surge was started by Ram. Now Ford is coming out with a monster 6.7, so it's only natural for GM to follow suit. If they didn't then they will be left behind in the marketing wars.
