I have a strong feeling GM is going to throw a twist at the new suvs besides the 4.3 5.3 and 6.2. Small diesel and or turbo 6 that would probably work into new truck platform that they can bring out when ford goes for a truck change on 150 or 250. We will see, and I am excited!!
Now you have me thinking what would the perfect, best, or desired Suburban
be for 'me'...
- +9K GVWR
- direct injection
- cylinder de-activation
- High compression ratio...+9 to 1
- manual 5 or 6 speed
- MANUAL 4x4
- locker
- 6K FGAWR
- +7K RGAWR
- Tail Gate
- Wide track
- Maybe dually option or back to that wide stance
- Wheel wells that would allow wide rims and tires
- Class V TRADITIONAL receiver design
- Keep the short wheelbase, but beef up the towing attributes like boxed and higher gauge rear frame rails
- Fully boxed frame rails
- Live axle front...Dana 60 range
- Disc all around, but a better design
- Trailer harness of larger gauge wiring and keep that nifty brake pedal switch that initiates way before the MC PSI is developed
Stuff I'd do if won the Lottery because know no OEM would...
- All electric motor
- Tranny is a double OD because an electric doesn't need a tranny but an over drive for freeway speeds
- Regenerative braking
- Solar panels on the roof rack
- 45KW (min) generator and keep a very large fuel tank
- Run all the accessories off of that generator or a separate electric motor driven
- Double caliper discs and the much larger MC required
Stuff putting together for my GMT400 Sub:
- 120psi@7CFM compressor...man that thing draws 40AMPS !!!
- 10 to 20 gallon air tank
- Air bladders for the rear axle
- Air control system to be able to inflate each separately
- 10AWG head lamp harness...old one got pinched by brother when he borrowed it last year...don't ask..only going to make me madder
- 200 amp, 100% duty cycle alternator
- still noodling a 5 sp manual conversion
- HO crate 7.4L
If the new Sub is a monocoque, never going to get rid of my GMT400 Sub
or go to a full sized van that I wanted when ordered my Sub...they
didn't have 4x4 option, but after reading Byran's...might consider an
after market 4x4 conversion
I don't care enough about the bells and whistles, but if they are
included in the package...maybe.
Dislike leather, but have it because included. Dislike the salesmen
boosting about the number of cup holders...and confirmed when that
dealership called to say my Sub was in..."hey guys...it's a 1500, I
ordered a 2500" at 3 of the dealerships where I had deposits.
Dislike all of the DVD's, GPS, LCD screens on the dash, HIGHLY integrated
everything, etc that takes control away from 'me' and increases the
complexity in usage, cost to repair, cost of tooling I can't afford
or willing to afford, etc.
Okay with the youngsters calling me an old Fuddie-duddie...Took one
guy with his +$70K Land Rover over to the watershed's dirt/gravel
service roads and he bulked saying it would mess up his 4x4... :S
