- I'm with Dodge guy - the antennae should not need to be removed. Good car washes never even suggest taking it off.
If you pull up to a car wash, and it has a sign to remove your antennae, go somewhere else! - Where in the owners manual does it state to remove the antenna mast before going through a car wash?!
- I don't think the material your vehicle is made out of (steel or aluminum) is the issue. The issue is, don't be so lazy that you fail to head the written warnings at the car wash and take 30 seconds to remove your antennas. After all, they have been making body parts out of fiberglass for years with little damage as a result.
- The Rams are running aluminum hoods also.
- I run my daily driver through a "panel beater" car wash 3 times a week. Not once have they offered to remove the antenna. It's still attached.
Oh, and the hoods on 2014-up GM trucks are aluminum. - Years ago I worked in the car wash biz and the deal was any stock items were the responsibility of the car wash. Aftermarket things like lights and bed covers were at your own risk. In this case the wash should have taken off the antenna.
I remember my favorite part of the day was cleaning up at the end of the day. I'd come out with my hands full of license plate frames, lens covers and bent up metal molding strips (this was in the 1980s :)) - I have never been a fan of the aluminum bodied trucks. Now, I am even less of a fan. My neighbor purchased a new F150, fancy aluminum body, loaded, etc. Had a hail storm, 5 holes through the hood the size of a golf ball. It was a great storm. I don't care how "military grade" their aluminum is, still not strong enough.
- Every time I take the truck to the car wash (usually once a week) they always remove the antenna. The kid has a small adjustable wrench in his pocket to remove it. The kid at the other end just reinstall's it by hand. I finish the job when I get home, the car wash must not be able to afford two adjustable wrenches lol.
They do have a sign stating they are not responsible for damage caused by not removing antenna or damage to non factory installed parts.
Don - So, the guy with the F150 was impressed that he kept his gun in its holster, all because of a little damage to his truck? Terrific.
- Sorry hear about your problem. I never use a car wash with brushes. You never know if some one used it before and their vehicle was loaded with mud. Since my truck is black I don't want sratches.
