Has anyone- Swtiched out steps

I am considering switching my metal steps into the RV to aluminum ones. Has anyone done this? What is the process, and is it worth it?
  • I didn't switch them out, but I just removed mine. On mine there were three bolts with nuts on each side.
The biggest problem is they are very heavy and lying on the ground under them can be dangerous when you remove that last bolt.

  • Love my Torklift Glowstep Revolution steps. I like them better than the MorRyde or Lippert ones as you can adjust how far from the camper they extend. I've been in some super tight areas that I worry about the swing space of those other steps.
  • We have these steps on our new 5er. We love them, didn't install them, but just to add my 2 cents, it's terrible when it has been raining and is muddy. Have to spend a little extra time trying to dry them off as they will go into the coach when stowed. Only issue we have with them.
  • We installed the aluminum Torklift steps. You need to order the correct width ones and they're a simple bolt-on swap. The advantage to them is that the bottom step sits directly on the ground which really cuts down the movement felt inside when someone is coming or going and they're a more stable feel when you walk on them. Also, they self-adjust for uneven ground when one side of the TT is on a site with slope to it.

Only downside is that you can't flip them down in seconds like you can with the stand fold-down steel ones. Not a big deal, it's just different.

Oh, and they look way sexier than black steel ones. :)
  • The change would be simple. They are most likely bolted to the floor or frame with 4 nuts and bolts. On our 'c' after unplugging the power to the electric step, I just removed the nuts in each corner of the step framework and out.
Is it worth it? Maybe, an extra step, wider, more stable, I can't see a big weight saving because the main framework of the 'aluminum' steps are probably steel.

  • Not sure if this is what you're considering but Big Truck Big RV did an install of the MORyde Step Above system recently and had a good video of it, seems simple enough.
