That's what's funny about some of these comments - we are on an RV forum, most members with bigger trucks & SUVs pulling big trailers. While we might be environmentally conscious, we are NOT saving gas/fuel anywhere along that journey!

Yes, of course. The environuts don't like the vehicles we drive, either!
As for other electrical loads, yes, they DO add load to the alternator (radio, CD player, etc.), and they DO decrease fuel MPG by some immeasurable amount, but, again, when that immeasurable amount is multiplied by the millions of vehicles on the road at any one time, it suddenly becomes a measurable amount!
Think of it this way; if one glacier calves off an iceberg, and that berg melts (which it will, eventually) it is no big deal. However, if ALL the ice in the world melts, it will be a catastrophe!
Ah, yes, the "inclement weather" statement. I have heard that some states require that when the windshield wipers are on, the headlights must be on. That seems to me to be a good idea, I wish ALL states had that law! Driving in heavy rain, snow, or fog without lights is incredibly stupid, whether daylight or dark! However, please ensure that your lights are properly adjusted.

fuel economy concerns don't bother me, but people who drive at night with only their DRL's on do. No taillights, and depowered DRL headlamps are a real danger on the road. I just prefer auto headlights, they come on automatically when conditions are less than ideal.

Exactly. My Volt has DRLs. The electric range is far more affected by the climate controls than even having the full lights on. You want to save more than a teaspoon of gas? Turn off your climate control fan and roll your windows up. Slow down and drive at your vehicle's optimum speed. Avoid jack rabbit starts and sudden stops. Don't idle excessively. Check your tire pressures and inflate them to the max. Don't pull a 5 ton trailer. DRLs are probably last on the list of things to worry about when it comes to fuel efficiency.

If you just don't like them, I'm ok with that as long as the law doesn't require them.

I've turned on my headlamps during inclement weather, on 2 lane roads,
when passing, etc

My Sub has DRL and like them. Has a diode in series when in DRL mode
and they are bypassed when full headlamp mode

I do turn them off when don't want to be noticed...

Current production LED DRL systems draw about 5 watts. How much does your car's radio draw?

my daughter solved that problem on her Toyo Rav in 2008 when she bought it.

She turned the headlights on and they have never been turned off. :W

On some/most/all Fords the time the lights stay on after the motor is turned off is adjustable.

Check with your stealer. That may be the effortless way of doing it.
