Help A Newbie! what weight RV's should I be shopping for!?

Engine power = good
Trans gearing = good
Payload = average

Stick to 6k dry weight or unloaded weight max. That will be about 7000 pounds loaded for a long weekend with 900-1000 pounds of loaded tongue weight leaving 500 for the family. That is a bit low for a bed full of stuff and your family, but should be acceptable with a well-adjusted WDH with integrated sway control.
