Here it comes... the F-150 Diesel

Competition is a good thing.

F-150 Diesel: Images Confirm Ford Turbo-Diesel Engine

These images confirm Ford will be using the Lion V6 found in Jaguar Land Rover products such as the Range Rover. The engine was developed while Ford still owned JLR. Out back, the F-150 diesel engine is further identified by the diesel venturi exhaust tip. Our earlier video confirmed that it sounds notably more diesel-like when running than the Ecoboost V6s that are already offered on the truck.

It appears Ford will be offering a direct competitor to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, which uses an Italian VM Mitori 3.0-liter V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic. Whether or not the F-150 diesel will debut with the facelifted F-150 series is uncertain, but we suspect it will be paired with the new 10-speed automatic jointly developed with GM and going into the 2017 Raptor.



Ahem, notice a Ram guy posting GOOD news about Ford. ;)

    But, are you secretly hoping the Ford will fail? :B

    I wonder what kind of MPG a 150 diesel will get? It could be a good daily driver.

    Nope! I'd like to see them catch on and do well.

    But I wouldn't be heartbroken if it prompted GM or Ram to follow up with something even better shortly after it. :B

    I wonder if the manufacturers realize it would be much easier to hide a new vehicle by leaving off all the black tarps and other BS. Something tells me this is the same way the Kardashians "hide" things. Basically, do everything you can to draw attention and then pretend you didn't mean it.

    All that aside, this looks pretty cool. I'm excited to see the American vehicles moving to diesel. Hell, we're only about 30 years behind most other modernized nations. That's about the average I guess. I think the horrid smoking/rattling diesels of the 1980s left a sour taste in many people's mouths and it's taken a long time for people to try again.

    I'm glad to see diesels making a comeback in the US. They make great power and get better fuel economy. If they can figure out how to meet the strict emissions regs, it sounds like a winner.

    Hope the F150 has more payload than the Ram 1500 though...

    I'm not convinced small diesels in 1/2 tons are the answer to anything. A mid size diesel in a 3/4 ton could be a boon for larger TT pullers. 350 HP and 500 ft lbs of torque getting decent MPG would be the sweet spot for me. I don't need or want 1000 ft lb behemoths.

    Actually Ford and Gm were very close to releasing diesel engines in their half ton trucks a few years ago, but the higher cost of diesel fuel over gas was the deal breaker.

    Also I believe those engines were small V8's.
