hitch grease

After the first time I got grease on my pants, I've never greased a hitch ball again. And I have three different hitches I change between so I don't need grease all over the place.

Canadian Tire sells a multi purpose grease in this handy squeeze tube that will easily last you a couple of seasons. :B To prevent getting grease on my pants I keep the hitch ball covered with this Fastway Hitch Ball Cover.

I found a tube of white lithium grease that I keep in my toolbox just for the hitch ball and a mini-grease gun with white lithium for the Blue Ox grease fittings.
The ball gets pretty dirty so I cut open a tennis ball and place it over the ball when I'm not hitched up so people don't get grease on their clothes if they brush against it.

I use Valvoline Crimson on my wheel bearings and suspension parts, the ball gets a squirt now and then.

Problem I have with greased balls is they get really dirty. I tend to drive lots of dusty dirt roads and two-tracks, grease makes sure that the dust sticks to everything.

I use bicycle grease in small plastic tubes. A little dab will do ya.

Yes, grease is greasy and messy....but it's part of the towing adventure and necessary.

The manufacturer says grease it and I think they know more than others who didn't design or manufacturer the part.

I use this....one jar has lasted over 10 years.

White lithium grease. Anything that moves and rubs against each other needs some lube. The hitch ball needs it and the spring bar sockets need it. Oil will not lube like grease will.

I never greased it.. maybe WD40 now and then to keep rust in check. It gets real messy if you remove the ball/insert all the time.

I use Vaseline on the ball because to stains less. Otherwise, I use plain old automotive grease on my Blue Ox bar socket bearings.

There are folk that never grease the hitch ball.
