Honda 2000 generator

The benefit of running propane is you will not have carb issues. The reason I have not converted our Honda to dual use is the only time we need a genny is winter camping...which is when we also need the most propane (for heat). So I did not want our heat source and fuel source to be the same...I would not be able to carry enough propane! I am careful to run our genny 1/mo all year to be sure the carb is not gumming up. I also add sea-foam to the fuel (as with all of our small gas motors.
The 1 gal tank on the H2K will run 10-12 hrs...which is plenty for a 2-3 day ski trip....so we don't even need to carry spare fuel. Just fill the genny and off we go.

One other comment about size; the 2k genny's are easily portable...have you seen the size of the 2.4k and 3k gennys?
I would not want to carry one...
Make sure you NEED that much juice before you buy one.

Anyone out there running a honda 2000 genny on propane? If so what are your likes and dislikes and how does it compare db wise to gas?

I converted my EU2000i to tri-fuel about 6 years ago and it has run for scores of hours on propane. I cannot tell any difference at all in the sound level or power output.

What I like most is that I can choose to run on whatever fuel is the most convenient at the time, which depends upon where I am going and how long I plan to be there…
- Most of the time I run the genny on propane, although I always keep the internal gas tank full (with Sta-Bil in the gas)
- During extended boon docking trips in the dessert I use an external 6-gal extended run gasoline tank.
- I have a natural gas hookup at my house in the event we ever have a power outage. I have tested it a few times (works just fine), but have never actually needed it.

I also like that I have never once had to clean my carburetor.

In terms of dislikes… Hmmm, it's hard to think of any. I do wish that I didn't have to adjust the demand regulator when switching between LPG and natural gas. Of course, that takes all of about 20 seconds :B

I have had three truck campers and they all had on board generators and the propane line went to the generator after the regulator and the onan even has a regulator built in as well or I was charged for one that did not exist, so if you run a honda from propane it would still have to be regulated? or not?

If you want to run propane you should be fine with the Yamaha Hybrid since that comes with a full 3 year warranty and also an extended warranty if you want it. I didnt investigate extensively but from what I quickly came up with the 2400 Hybrid is about $200 more than the standard gasoline model.

When purchasing my new Honda 2000,I ask the sales person about a propane conversion for it.His reply was that honda does not offer them and does not suggest using them.Also doing so would void the warranty. Just saying.

Per this Yamaha site it well use low pressure.

"All the Yamaha generators our website (even the tri-fuels) are for natural gas and low pressure propane. These can use both fuels because they use the same low pressure engine regulator. The Drawing above illustrates a generator installed on the low pressure side of the house pipe system. The meter shown on the left would be a low pressure propane regulator if this was a propane system.

The Yamaha engine regulator installed will accept up to 14" of water column maximum. This allows it to be used for both natural gas (4"-8") and low pressure propane (11"-14"). The same engine regulator can be used for both fuels that is also why they are installed on the tri-fuel generators."

It may be different with other ones but this one works on low pressure.

If you want to go to the trouble of doing some plumbing it is possible to put a tee at your propane tank ahead of the pressure regulator to tap high pressure propane before it is regulated down for the rest of your RV needs.

I am sure somebody can tap into your RV tanks before the regulator to provide high pressure output.

If you are using the fact that your RV has a exterior propane connection for a barbecue you will be able to use it for a propane fueled generator sorry but it won't work. That exterior propane connection is regulated low pressure propane. The propane conversions for generators require high pressure propane.
