Honda 2k and rain

Folks please think about your wording before you post. I see no need to be rude or harsh to have a different opinion.

YES, we are serious. Just because you've been lucky with your generator doesn't mean everyone will always be lucky. Again, the instructions say "don't run them in the rain." Maybe it's CYA. You got $1000 you can throw my way so I can test the theory? Didn't think so.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. I did stick it under the nearest, densest, driest tree. The Honda was not directly exposed to the rain. Perhaps that made the difference. I can assure you that I wont test it out in a driving rain to find out.

I agree that tenting in with something like plywood is a good idea.

I carry a short piece of ply wood, probably 3x3, when it rains I push the Honda under the truck or trailer and use the plywood on the windward side as a precaution. Most of the time at the Coast, because of fog and mist I will just set it in the back of the pick up with topper and let it run in there.
Mine cost me close to a grand so I will take top care of it.
If it was considered a disposable generator i might care allot less because it wouldn't hurt that much to replace it!

Yes you can do what you want to keep your generator "like new", including welding up exhaust and roof stacks into a trailer but the fact of the matter is they will operate just fine in almost any condition short of submerged or laying on their side.
Do I leave mine sitting out on a stump in the forest with moss growing on it? No, I store it inside when not in use for long periods, but I sure as heck don't take it in out of the rain if I'm running a submersible pump at work during a rain storm or microwaving a hot pocket during a blizzard in my camper!

I just got back from two days at Snoqualmie Pass running the Honda in heavy rain. I never thought there would be a problem. And there wasn't. The generator ran flawlessly.

I think I will weld one of those adapters on the exhaust, use about 1 foot of flex pipe and hook that to a piece of steel conduit that goes straight up through the roof of my 7x14 trailer. That way it runs inside (storage only) trailer plus exhaust noise comes out 7' up on roof of trailer. Maybe a turndown to keep water out on top. i think this will work best for me and the type of boondocking we do. I will also need to put an RV receptical boxes up near hitch and a cable inside to plug into generator. I have a feeling the box trailer will be following us most places we go because BMW R1200 is inside.
