- pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
You could add a "hot rod" or similar unit. Here is an example:

Thanks for the info guys! It's an Atwood 6 Gallon Gas / Electric Water Heater GC6AA-10E.
10E version uses COMMON 12VDC to BOTH on/off switches then to circuit board.
Circuit board then allows DC to either ECO & Gas Valve for propane operation
OR to the DC Relay then allows 120VAC to the Element
SO.........
Have to have 12VDC Switches for GAS/Electric
12VDC from switches to circuit board (White wire/electric---Orange wire/propane
120VAC from a 15A circuit breaker to the AC side of that DC Relay
Yellow wire from circuit board goes to the DC Relay which is inside the cover on backside of WH TANK where element is
Here is info on 'conversion' see has 23, 24, 25
Atwood Water Heater Service Manual
Here is a 'color' version of wiring diagram
Here is wiring for switches - Racin__JasonExplorerThanks for the info guys! It's an Atwood 6 Gallon Gas / Electric Water Heater GC6AA-10E.
- Dick_BExplorerI wouldn't bother. The electric version soaks up electricity like no other device, except maybe a toaster, and there are parts and wires in the circuit that don't hold up. I have had to replace the switch and burned up wires.
Also, the propane heats up the water much faster. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIDepends on WHICH Atwood Model.....
versions 9e and previous (6 gal) and 3e/previous (10 gal) use separate controls for gas and electric
Versions 10e and 4e use common 12VDC for controls of both with a Relay to trigger 120VAC to element
So Really matters WHICH model you have......data sticker in outside compartment will show model number
Post it......OK
