How much headroom for over-cab beds?

I can sit up comfortably in my Lance with room to spare. My old Palomino, I couldn't do that. In fact, if I tried to sit up at night sometimes, I wound up smacking my face into the extremely low ceiling.
Not sure about other makes and models, but they no doubt vary.

1988 Komfort. I could not sit straight up. I had to slump.

This thing is that may of them are different. Some are really short and some tall....

My 95 Weekender has a LOT of headroom and 7' ceilings in the main living area; which was a deciding factor for me. I'm 6' and my other half is 6'7".

Yes, there is a very large variance. Some pop ups like northstar have more room than some hard sides. I had a northstar laredo hard side which was like being in a coffin. Absolutely no sitting up and to get out of the cab over required a half sit up and a great abb work out to move in and out. My kids hit their heads on the cabover so many times. It was worthy of offroad use,but the cabover was limited to sleeping only. This was a major feature Why I went with my current WC. I can sit up and read, but the overhead is not too high which raises the center of gravity and you get alot of sway when going off road. Since you like to boondock and get off the beaten path if/when you decide to get a TC you should seriously look at this feature before pulling the trigger. With a TC you are limited on space and we really need the cabover as an additional hang out space and not jst for laying down/sleeping.

So you're 12'7"?? Holy smoke! That's gotta be tough.:B

It varies even between models from the same manufacturer.

Our previous Lance 825 (supposedly 1/2 ton compatible :R) had 33"

Our present Lance 855s has 41"

Big difference- 41" allows sitting up, 33" does not.


Once you start looking at TCs, you need to spend time in any unit that interests you. Sit at the table, get up into and lie down in the bed then get back down to the floor, get into the bathroom, open and close drawers, closets, windows and doors. We tell any salesman that we want to look around the unit on our own and see how it feels to us. No hurry.

that used to be my first test when looking at TCs. sit on the end of the bed and see if my head touches.

lol, that's what we do, send the salesman away for an hour or so.
depends on the model not so much the brand. I would think the taller the cabover, the more crosswind your going to feel. At least that's it worked in my case.
Therefore depending on the truck at which the camper sits will determine how it rides . I felt the difference on my SRW truck.
