In four years I have never found a 50 amp only post. I have had occasions to use my 15 amp adapter but never needed a 30 to 50 amp adapter.
As matter of fact, in the last four years and 30,000 miles of towing, I have not even found a cross wire circuit box. I have a circuit tester and surge protector. Perhaps because we almost always stop at a State Park, the chance of a miss wire is less probable. Still it is always a good idea to check.
I've had two melted/smoked 30A outlets, maybe the 30A plug would have worked, but with the 50A dogbone I was able to completely avoid the issue by plugging into the 50A socket. - rbpruExplorer IIIn four years I have never found a 50 amp only post. - gmw_photosExplorerI too used mine this weekend at a horse show "campground". A rather unique power pedestal, it had two 50A outlets and a 20A.
Good thing I had the adapter, because it was the last available spot with power, and it was 94 degrees so air-con was essential. - j_p_f_Exploreryep, used mine this weekend.
the 30 amp was in such bad shape I was afraid to use it. - BoomerwepsExplorerThanks all. Got one.
- djsamuelNomadOne time I had a site with a bad 30 amp circuit breaker. Was VERY glad to have the adapter in my camper.

30 amp outlet are in bad condition a lot of the time. If a 50 amp is available you have another option to plug in.
yup. I've yet to be in a site with a 50A that didn't also have a 30A. But in a few sites the 30A was in such bad shape I used the 50A with an adapter.
so.... IMHO it's worth it to have a 50/30 adapter, a 30/15 adapter - dockmasterdaveExplorerI almost always use the 50 amp, they are in better condition, usually.
Where we stayed this past weekend there were 50's but no 30 amps, so yes I use it.
I had a 50 amp put in at my house, where I store the trailer and use it all the time. It didn't cost me much more than putting in a 30 and if someone visits needing 50 amp, or we get a bigger unit, we are already set. - AtleeExplorer III've never used my 50amp to 30amp dog bone much, but it's definitely important to have a quality one in your kit. As always, it's better to have one and not need it, and need it and not have it.
One time at a CG, my PT EMS showed there was an open ground on the 30 amp receptacle at the pedestal. I used the 50amp to 30amp dog bone and simply plugged into the 50amp receptacle. Problem solved.
And as others have mentioned, the 30 amp receptacle gets by far the most wear at a CG. Sometimes it's best to move to the 50 amp receptacle.
