- LarryJMExplorer IIAlways since that's the only way to get 60A power to my trailer.
- BarneySExplorer IIIAs stated above by most members, we use ours most of the time even though our trailer only uses 30amp because of the condition of many 30amp receptacles.
However there were two times where the campground we were going to stay in only had 50amp receptacles. One of those was a Coast to Coast campground located in the upper part of Oklahoma. The other time was a Military campground located somewhere in Alabama - I have forgotten which one. Both of these places had only 50amp hookups but would loan out an adapter if you didn't have one with you.
I also 2nd the recommendation of getting the dogbone type of adapter. The round hockey puck style are cheaply made and may burn out on you.

30 amp outlet are in bad condition a lot of the time. If a 50 amp is available you have another option to plug in.
Agreed, also when the 30a breaker at the pedestal is weak. - AtleeExplorer IIdelete
- OleManOleCanExplorerI sometimes use a 50 to 30 outside with fans, Fridges ect...
Most times lots of set up outside isn't really worth it.
I do like to run a 15 amp extension cord inside for use with an Electric Heater, or Fan.
My wife has used it for a hair dryer too. - PuttinExplorerAs others may have stated....the 50a receptacle in the pedestal is a sturdier and tighter connection that the 30a. After having my cords destroyed by the burned blades on them and the male plug of my expensive surge protector, I now exclusively use my adapter for the 50 to 30. I've had no repeat of these problems since.
- CampingfarmerExplorerGot to use mine on our last camping trip. The 30 breaker kept tripping and the EMS was showing 20 to 21 amps being used when the A/C was on. Switched over to the 50 with my dog bone and no more problems.
Reported it at the gate on the way out and they said they would have it checked out. - AtleeExplorer IITrue, but who knows what evil lurks behind a 30A outlet. That's also why my PT 30C EMS goes on before my trailer shore power cord does.

I've been to scores of RV parks and never needed one till this last summer. Fortunately the park had a 50 to 30 Amp dogbone to loan me. I broke down and bought one at Walmart. I'll use it when I have to but I worry a bit of using a 30 Amp cordset on a 50 Amp circuit. Bad things can happen to the wiring if something goes wrong. - AtleeExplorer IIA good 50A to 30A dog bone is a must have in your kit.
Do I have to use one often? No. Have I used one on occasion? Yes. Once or twice, it's been the difference of having electricity and not having electricity.
And what the others have mentioned about the 30A outlet being in much worse condition than the 50A outlet is also true. Many, many more people use 30A thab 50A, therefore the 30A outlet can be relatively worn, while the 50A outlet is nearly pristine. - Dave5143ExplorerI've been to scores of RV parks and never needed one till this last summer.
