How to check for previous "tuner" on a used truck?

The reason I ask is because on FTE there is a person with a 6.4 that they bought with 35k ish miles... 30k miles later they experienced an engine failure... Ford Denied the Warranty due to the use of ...

I for one would not have thought to take a late model truck to the dealer and (likely) pay to check for a removed tuner chip.
Perhaps if the previous owner went to some trouble to restore (hide) the mods that voided warranty legal recourse for fraud may be possible.
At 18K I would leave no stone unturned to get justice. JMO
