how to clean toilet "pipe"?

When looking down my toilet "pipe" when cleaning it, I can't get that extension (that extends to the tank) even decent looking. Never have seen this question posted..can't believe I am the only one with a nasty "pipe" !! Or am I the first one willing to step up and 'fess up?! Help please?!!
  • Thank you ALL...now I know I am not the only owner of a nasty pipe! They should have used black pipe! Another reinforcement to my belief that real rvers don't do the designing!
  • Are you referring to the Thetford Aquamagic IV that has a big hollow base that fills up with splash back? I've never bothered to clean it as I only see it if I'm gazing lovingly down the hole as I flush. But I will be the first to say I think it was probably not very well thought out.

    X2. Don't ask how I know.:E
  • I just use the standard toilet cleaning brush and get it down in there.
  • they make a flexible clean out hose that you can put down the toilet and it has an on/ off valve so you can clean out the whole tube.
  • I use a garden hose with a spray nozzle and blast off the poo.
  • Funny you should ask. I just spent part of the day dealing with a clog in my toilet after we ran into problems camping last weekend.

I ended up going to the store a buying a wand for cleaning the area between the toilet and the tank. Fortunately mine is a just a straight drop down to the holding tank. While I was at the store, though, I noticed there was another wand that had about a 3' flexible hose attached to it surrounded by a spring. It was designed to be used on units such as yours that don't have a straight drop down to the tank. I don't know if a 3' hose in addition to the length of the wand it was attached to (24" maybe) would be enough to reach down far enough for you but it might be worth a try. Hope this helps. Good luck!
