Having lived in Colorado, I actually see that state as rich in Sun, and fairly easy to deal with in terms of snow (have lived in Wisconsin, Montana, Colorado, Utah, and New England). Since I'll be retired it won't be a big deal to brush off the snow on the panels. To me the big deal is whether I have the space to add enough panels/ batts to enable one to be off the grid for awhile.
I've looked at the options for insulation, thermopane windows and ...wow, things have come along way since my last old camper and yes the weather leakage around the slides is an issue.
Seems the big factor is the physical space. As one respondent pointed it, it is less space to heat than a small 5th wheel. Being on the road full-time, it makes me wonder whether I should consider a small trailer for misc stuff. I suppose I need to inventory what I would want along with me, and have that in mind when inspecting campers closet space.
I do think however, that I will need to consider how to maximize the solar option. Looks like I need to do some "serious" planning.
