Thank you all for all the information I don't have to retire or quit my job for a few more years so I have time to plan. Having lived out of my car at 8700 elv, for 4 months in a Colorado winter I understand the issues of maintaining water and food stocks, keeping warm, etc. Actually I did like my existence at the time. One did need the correct location to pull it off tho.
The modern TCs look very do-able, along with the modern extra heavy diesel and certainly expensive enough too. I would like to be in one place at a time for week(s) to even a couple of months; don't think I'd be drifting every other day out of the whole year. I am considering the storage and raw capacity of a small modern 5th wheel for one person vs the TC. I am also considering simply putting a large topper on a long bed and live out of that to decide what I really want. One thing will be to pick a new home base with a large storage garage to centrally store items used throughout different times of the year..
I will be seriously looking at lithium batteries and solar. A big question with campers will be does one need to be wet all the time in all geographic locations, and I don't have to utilize the more challenging environments every year. Maybe I can be wet 90% of the year.
In the mean time I will be inventorying what I need starting with a living out of the truck with topper mentality and adding to that.
