It's real simple to do business, absolutely trouble free, on CL.
1. You don't provide an email.
2. You list your cell # as five-seven- zero etc.... so that it cannot be harvested by a phone spamming computer.
3. You state that you will ignore texts, period.
4. No trades, no shipping, no stories, no games , no BS.
Believe me, that will eliminate 99% of posts like the OP's. CL CAN be a real resource, and connect you with a lot of quality potential buyers, if you use it properly.
X2. I've done quite a bit of business on Craigslist over the years and frequently got responses from scammers, but I noticed that they always contacted me via e-mail. So I started using the e-mail "hide" option when posting an ad and listed my mixed-format phone number as the only way to contact me. I do accept texts though, since so many people prefer that to calling these days.
Since then, zero scammers. None.
I bought my truck, truck camper and 5er on CL. All smooth transactions. I also use eBay but for large items I always use CL. - wnjjExplorer II

Buyes all have smart phones now so they will be more apt to key in your email shown right in your ad, than go thru that whole hidden process cragslists offers. Albeit I applaud them for offering the hidden email option not printed within the ad like so many other classified do.
I just checked craigslist from my phone and I think you have it backward. There's a button next to the craigslist hidden email to send one. Having to type in an email (that you can't even directly copy) is clumsy on a smartphone and it's much easier for the buyer to use the hidden one. - SteveBExplorerI've had good luck on CL selling a bunch of old stuff for cheap. Sold my 77 Corvette on CL with no scammers while my Auto Trader Classic ad cost $75 and generated nothing but scams.

We recently sold a fairly new Travel trailer. I tried to trade it in, but dealers wanted to give me $9K. I told one that it would sell, privately, for $15K. He told me that I was crazy, and that HE couldn't get that, and I never would since NOBODY could ever drop $15K. in cash, those deals are going to need to be financed. By the second week of the CL ad, I had a back up buyer for my second, and third back up buyers. Had two buyers that were ready with the cash, full price, when and if the original deal fell through.
I thought all CL was for was scammers, you mean that people actually sell stuff there????
I listed a few items and my photography services and have looked for a few items and all I got was scams, have not actually sold anything or did any business on CL.
.
Scams are a self inflicted wound. If you properly list your phone # and no other contact info, and make it clear that you will NOT be pleasant to the clowns and BSers that call, you will do quite well. - sorenExplorerIt's real simple to do business, absolutely trouble free, on CL.

One click gathers all the emails on a page. The key is the @ symbol that makes it a recognizable link to snatch.
I just type my email address within craigs list with (AT) instead of the @ sign. Once I started doing that all scam, spam in my inbox stopped.

Once paypal got rouge I closed all accounts associated with EBAY and Paypal and switched to using only craigslist. I sell 200% more of my stuff at the price I want AND faster, selling to 'local people' with CASH IN HAND. :B - camperpaulExplorer

There are lots of good-guy pranksters working the scammers over. I became aware of this site several years ago when a co-worker friend would tell me about his reverse-scam adventures. There are some pretty funny stories there. - BedlamModeratorWhen I want to mess with the scammers:
1. I tell them I come from a big family that scattered throughout the world. There is no reason to send or ship anything because I most likely have people close enough to meet in person. When the person mentions some obscure location, I tell them that's perfect - I'm just about to head there on another business trip and will throw out a local location I found on the Internet where we can meet.
2. I explain to them I trace international cybercrime and I appreciate the trail they left behind. They have a choice of remaining at the computer until authorities arrive or be charged with evasion and obstruction of justice in addition to international wire fraud. I have already captured their physical picture and all locations where their account was used. Today is not their lucky day.
3. I have been scammed before, but they targeted the wrong person. My "family" now has a contract on you and all know relatives and acquaintances. The bounty is set high enough you will not be able to trust family or friends and there is a bonus if you are forced to watch the demise of the people you love. It's a matter of honor - You understand?
