Inadvertent Happijac Eextension

Was preparing the NL to evacuate for hurricane Mathew and the RR Happijac inadvertently fully extended and both left jacks fully retracted. The wired remote control was NOT plugged in. If the camper had not been blocked up it would have tipped completely over. Also both 30 amp fuses blew and melted down. Got camper set back upright manually with no apparent damage. We are just now getting back to normal so I can check things out but nothing works. When I plug the remote in it gives a green light for about a second then flashing yellow indicating it needs reset. Went through the reset procedure but nothing helps. Tried to call Happijac but could not get a call through so I left them a message through their website. Have not heard back from them yet. Any ideas on how to fix this or where to get another control box?

  • I stayed with the wired remote when I changed my circuit board because I heard there are only a few different radio frequencies and could cause you neighbors jacks to go up or down

I disagree. Every time I've needed to contact Happijac, I've gotten through or had them return my call after leaving a message within a day. In fact, I called them today about a jack motor issue, left a message, and got a return call within 2 hours. I think their customer service is pretty good.
  • Finally got through to Happijac. They said probably moisture got to the control board or remote control. Said to send it to them for diagnosis. I'll post findings.

  • I had one HappiJac fully extend itself at night while parked in the garage. Not 100% sure of the cause, but found that the Ethernet connector (female that you plug the remote cord into) was corroded. My guess is that during wet & foggy weather there was a short in the connector. I replaced the connector, (available at Radio Shack and elsewhere) and have not had a recurrence. Take a good look at the tiny wires inside the female end of the plug. If they are the least bit corroded, replace the plug. It's an easy, cheap fix, worth doing even as troubleshooting. Tom McCloud
  • Hit by lightening perhaps? The jacks would make a good target. You might want to jump the motors with 12V and make sure they turn.

The control box is widely available from internet sources, just order the wireless upgrade kit for the Happijacs. When I purchased my latest camper with wired controls, the wired control itself was lost. As a separate part, that cost nearly as much as the wireless upgrade kit which includes the control box and the wireless control.
