Installing Electric Brakes on a PUP

This is going to be the second part of my project list.

Have bought all the necessary parts to install electric
brakes on my PUP and after looking over the PUP and TV
I've got a couple of questions.

1. Does anybody know which wire to hook the brake sensor
wire to on the brake light switch. My 2013 GMC Terrain
has four(4)wires on the connector. I don't have a wiring diagram
does anybody happen to have one.

2. Any body that has done this, (On A GMC Terrain) where did you mount the Circuit Breaker for the 12 volt feed??

3. And the brake controller feed??

  • Depending on the brake controller you are using, the easiest is to also buy the wiring harness from the brake controller manufacturer. Then it becomes plug and play. You will need a 7 pin connector on both the trailer and rear of the SUV. Wiring then is per the Bargman diagram found all over the internet.
  • Are you describing an existing four-flat trailer connection? If so, all that does/will ever do is control lights on the trailer. You'll need to move to a bigger connection- seven-wire is usual although you can get by with six if all you want to add is brakes and charging line.

The brake sensor doesn't connect to the brake lights. It requires a new wire all its own, and must be controlled by a unit installed inside the tow vehicle.
