Installing Satellite Receiver in TT

We recently purchased a 24' Dutchman Aspen Trail TT w/one slide out. It has a flat screen tv with a cable tv hook up. We'd like to travel with our Dish satellite system, but the only space for the receiver is in on a shelf above the refrigerator which is a different wall. Has anyone ever dealt with this situation and if so, can you give us any guidance as to how we go about it? Is this something that Camping World can install?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  • The receivers will work if you lay it on it's side, you just have to prop it up so air can get into the vents. I don't know if this will give you mor options for placement.

We've never permanently mounted ours so we can take it back and forth to the house. I have run the cable coming from the sat dish through a window or through the slideout gasket.

Most cables can be run inside of cabinets and down the vent pipes running to the storage compartments to get to the other side.
  • I have used one of those wireless audio/video transmitters to beam my signals around.

  • I would worry about mounting on the side of it is a DVR. The drive might not like it. If you are connecting with an HDMI cable just get one long enough.
  • We are definitely going with DVR--it's the thing we miss the most! There is a shelf above the refrigerator that is big enough--our concern is that it is on the other side of the rig from the tv and the cable connection. I have to believe that we're not the only ones with this trailer that want a satellite hook up.

You should be ok to mount sideways even with a DVR. Hard drives can be mounted horizontally or vertically. Just don't totally block the vents. Those things get pretty warm on the inside. If you do mount it sideways, just make sure it's secure. Sudden movements, like from it tipping over, is enough to destroy the drive if it's writing.
  • We have a small open shelf above the refrigerator that has enough room for the receiver to sit flat, although we'd probably set it on something so that it can vent from top and bottom and secure it for traveling. My concern is that it is on the right side of the rig (door side) and our tv is on the left side. I don't know how we can hook up the wires from the receiver to the tv. In our old rig the TV compartment was right above the compartment for the components (e.g. stereo, dish receiver.) I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a wireless receiver? I can't believe we're the only RVers that have run into this situation.
