Some standard is better than no standard. It certainly gives you a level playing field. The max towing may be overstated for your use. For example, the towing is done at the Davis Dam in Arizona at about 4K feet. If you are talking about naturally aspirated engines, if its rated J2807 maximum tow weight is 10,000 pounds, you may be really disappointed with the performance with 10K pounds if you live in Colorado and pull 10,000 foot passes regularly. In that case, you should know not to buy right at the limits if you pull in high elevations regularly if you do your research. The J2807 is a reasonable standard for average people, but certainly not a perfect standard for all people and all situations. Keith
