- ksssExplorerI would think any ad agency could build a great ad destroying the tow specs on the Ford and Ram. That is why I thought even when Ford did not want to follow suit a couple years ago that GM should have moved forward with it. If I were the man you would not have been able find an ad that did not mention Ford's refusal to follow the towing spec.
I would also voluntarily subject the GM HD pickups to the standard. I think based on GM's 2015's ability to more than hold their own during pull offs what is there to lose? GM already has the lowest specs among the Big Three. Might as well capitalize on their performance and have a reason for having the least impressive spec sheet (in hp and torque). - ib516Explorer IIGood for GM (and Toyota). RAM and Ford need to step up and do the same.
GM's ratings took a mild hit, but the consumer is the ultimate winner when the manufacturers are reeled in a bit with their BS tow ratings. - blt2skiModeratorStill would like to know if I can pull a 30+% grade in first gear at gcwr. If not, the truck is not worth having, nor should it be rated to that gcwr!
This SAE J2807 is nothing more than a base to get a given rigs ratings. A 12% grade to stop and start on is less than my driveway......does me a lot of good to use this test procedure to figure out if the rig will work or not!
BS is still BS!
Marty - RedskyExplorerThe SAE J2807 is a testing procedure and a test by GM may be in compliance with J2807 but a vehicle cannot be said to be in compliance. I would expect someone who is paid to write for a trade publication would be more intelligent - and obviously be wrong.
A number of tests have been done and published in print and online for trucks that used the J2807 guidelines, such as the ones by etrailer.com in 2011 and the one by Car and Driver done in April of 2012.
I don't think it was a coincidence that deficiencies noted in the Ram and Ford trucks was corrected by the following model year. Bad press can be good for customers. - FordloverExplorer

There was an agreement between Ford and GM about 2-3 years ago to release the new figures. GM released theirs. It was actually posted here IIRCC. The HDs did very well, but heir 1/2 tons took a big hit.. Ford chickened out, and GM quickly recalled their figures. They couldn't face the sales hit they would have taken with Ford still advertising the old numbers against their new numbers.
Really? Do you have a copy of this agreement?
While I agree the roll out of the revised ratings has been underhanded by every manufacturer (other than Toyota) blaming this all on Ford is pretty silly. - BenKExplorerProof that their survey's and demographics works so well and that bulls eye on
most of these folks back side are smack on target...
Meaning that it's the same truck folks...just 'better' real world specifications
Does it make everyone feel better when they read the 'fake' specifications?
AGAIN, IT IS THE SAME TRUCK as before!!!! - lbrjetExplorer

I am also glad that GM got on the bandwagon. I think they should have done it with the new 2014 half ton release. The home of the "liars contest" is in the HD pickups as it relates to tow ratings, at least in my opinion. I look forward to seeing all three compliant with their HD pickups.

The tow rating of the 3/4 ton Duramax dropped by 4K in the numbers GM published. Everything else did very good. - HuntindogExplorer
