While I agree that they need to update and get more gears, they did do better than the GM on the Ike.
It's not pulling hills that the extra gears help, it's cruising unloaded on the freeway where the extra gears result in lower RPM's.
More gears allows you to find one that allows the engine to operate at WOT with out over reving or lugging.
Wilber1, I agree 100%, our 2001 Ram 2500 had the NV4500 5 speed with 3.55’s. There was a big jump between 3rd and 4th, climbing a grade if I got slowed to the point I needed to drop to 3rd, I could take to red line, then in 4th it would drop to about 1,500 rpm and would lug. I was stuck until the hill flattened a bit so I could overcome the low rpm.
