Is there a market for refurbished camper

I almost finished my rebuild of the 79 Shasta. Now Im thinking of letting it go. Question is could I ever get close to what I have put into it. Its a 79 Shasta , 24 foot bunkhouse. I have receipts for around Twelve thousand dollars. This includes complete reframing, all new appliances, new plumbing, all new electrical.all new lights, you get the picture. What do you people think. Thanks

  • I have the same dilemna with my rebuild project.

Totally rebuilt from top to bottom. All new wood framing, insulation, inside paneling, outside siding and so much more.

Huge dollars spent and about a thousand hours of my time went into it.

I never did finish it and I put it on Craigslist for 2500. Got a few calls but no serious interest in it.

Fact is, although it is brand new end to end and top to bottom, it remains a 1981 Citation.

Sad, but the chance of getting a decent buck for it is slim.
  • Thanks folks. It's a shame my wife and I worked two years on this thing, and never spent the night in it. I'll try to finish . Maybe this spring we will hit the road.
  • Shasta, you say you're thinking of "letting it go". Does that mean you'd sell the finished trailer? Can you get back $12K, possibly? Can you get more, possibly? It will take the right buyer.

I restored all of mine and knew I could never get out of it what I put in for materials and labor. I will profit from using it(without a payment). Another good thing is that I know about every pipe joint, electrical connection, all the screws and nails. If I need to repair anything, it's not a mystery. Hopefully, since it was "handmade" I won't have most of the typical troubles with a new TT. At least I know who to blame.:B
  • The above says it all......don't expect a return on your money.
Think of it as paying for your hobby.:) I'm sure you enjoyed the time you spent on it, so it may be that you got your money's worth there, but you won't see in from someone else.
  • Nope, not unless its an Airstream, Silverstream, or an immaculate Avion. You will get no where near the 12k. MAYBE 3-6k... thats the nature of this beast.

I went through this with my 95. Put thousands into it and still lost about $800.00 from the original purchase price.

Fact remains, its a no slide, old TT. That is saying a lot when the RV industry considers a 10 year old unit "old".

Enjoy it if you can, if not dump it now before you put another dime into it.

    Thanks!
  • Nope......one rarely gets back monies put into projects be it cars, RVs, trucks etc.

    It's a 1979 Shasta....that's all a buyer will care about.
With it in refurbished condition maybe $5000 IF the buyer was really wanting a Shasta (they sold brand new for about that price......34 yrs. ago)
  • The problem with a really nice old RV is that it is still just an old RV. My HR is worth far more to me than it would ever be worth to someone else. They just aren't very good investments.
