Thanks all for the thoughts and well wishes. It appears I may have jumped the gun. In the hurry to get it sqared away and make it to work, I overlooked the real problem.
The dealer called today and said the rear is probably fine. The carrier bearing on the drive shaft is what seized. A new shaft and bearing set up with labor will run about $1100. He recommended doing the transfer case service while it's there and I agreed since I have been thinking about doing it for a while. The only question was the diff service. The claim life-long fluid and no change necessary under normal conditions (not sure I agree) and the only caveate for me is the fact that that pinion took a little abuse, so might want to consider doing it to be sure. The issue is, the service runs $350!!!!!
They're going to replace the parts and do the transfer case then see how it looks and sounds. That's a pretty high price tag for peace of mind, but I did save a bunch on the spark plugs, fuel module, and front springs. I have to get another 100K out of this unit before I can trade up. Really shocked it wasn't the rear axle, but glad at the same time.
Additionally, I could not have higher praise for the CoachNet service. They hit this one out of the park. I'm a believer.
