Carrier bearings are always an issue on rigs that tow and have long shafts, but most F-150 owners probably don't tow too much.
Sicking with the OEM setup is the easiest, I just wanted to throw out a common fix others use.
As Ben mentioned the carrier bearing support must come out, but unless it is welded in that would be easy.
Either way I would steer clear of the dealership and find a local driveline shop for the repairs. I would have the OEM shaft rebalanced once the repairs are done.
