Jensen DVD/Radio combo

I just bought a Primetime Avenger 27 in February of this year. It is a 2014. We have not camped yet, due to snow but I do have it hooked up in my driveway so my 3 year old can have some fun and get excited for camping. My problem is the other day I had a DVD playing and all of the sudden is said ERR disc on the TV. So I pulled the DVD out checked to make sure it wasn't scratched or covered in 3 year old finger prints. I put it back in and still wouldn't play I tried another 2 discs and same thing happened. Anyone have any issues like this? I was hoping for an at home fix before I have to hook it up and drive back to the dealer. It is the standard Jensen DVD/CD/Radio combo I have seen in most trailers.

  • My Jensen AWM965 did the exact same thing. It was still under warranty, called the dealer and they just ordered a replacement. Jensen wouldn't let me install it so I did'have to take it in for replacement. The replacement worked fine for 2 years -- sold that trailer so I am not sure what the status is now.

The new trailer also has the same AWM965...it is working as expected. I agree the Jensen's are junk, but 90% when we are camping the kids aren't allowed to watch TV/Movies it is reserverd for rainy days, so upgrading isn't part of the plan for us.
  • They all suck. If you always watch movies while plugged into AC, buy a $20 home DVD player. IMHO, the OEM Jensen unit isn't worth the fuel to tow the camper into a dealer, let alone the time to do so.

The unit runs off 12V DC, so most mobile stereo/DVD players will work.
  • Try running a DVD disk cleaner through it a couple times. It's easy to get dirt and dust in the machine, especially in an RV.
  • Still trying to figure out how to get my TV to play through teh surround sound on my player. Instructions taalk about a setup menu but I can never get it to appear.
  • I was not using Blueray discs. It was in the middle of a movie when it just stopped playing. Then tried other discs, not blueray and they did not work either. Just said ERR DISC on the TV screen. And they were discs that I own and that work in everyother player in my house.

The CD PLAYER that is vertical did not survive very long in my 5th wheel trailer. It was the first thing to fail.

I have a stand along WALMART CD player now to play music CD's that is plugged into the sound system aux inputs. I did the same thing with the movie DVD player. I just use a $20 WALMART DVD player and plug in the three video cable inputs to the HDTV video input connections. Works great for us.

My other POPUP trailer has the JENSEN CAR RADIO that has CD player built in and it is still working fine. This unit goes way back off the power grid forest roads and trails and probably gets banged around alot.

I don't have much faith in the those drop down LID type CD/DVD payers.

  • I HAD the same unit in my trailer. The DVD player is very picky on the DVDs it will play. I am in the process of replacing it with an auto (Kenwood) head unit and a separate Blu-ray player. I also found the little remote control to be intermittent in operation.
  • Not sure if you were using BluRay dvds. But it won't play BluRay.
We've had our Jensen 975 for a year and no problems. I will say however that the remote for it is the biggest POS I've ever used. We just went out this weekend and watched a rented movie. Are you playing rentals, purchased or burned movies?
