I would not get a diesel truck for towing without 3.73 gears. The lower gears translates into a better EPA number that helps the truck manufacturer meet the CAFE standards for their vehicles but does nothing for the truck owner unless they drive at 55 MPH on level ground with nothing in tow.
This is a smart time to buy a 2014 truck and save yourself $8,000 or more. Just look for a truck in the state with 3.73 gears and pay cash. If you cannot afford to pay cash you cannot afford to buy the truck.
