  • I was a little skeptical about the 3.42 rear end but after about 9000 miles I am happy with it. I tow a 14, 000 lb fifth wheel and on relatively flat ground it will stay in 6th gear. At 1500 rpm I am running 68 mph. And average about 10.5 to 11 mpg. Start bucking a strong head wind or hills and I will lock out 6th gear. If I remember correctly when I am turning about 1700rpm I will be running about 70 mph. With sixth gear locked out . Still get about 10.5 to 11 mpg. Takes a pretty good hill to make it shift from 5th to 4th.
Very happy with the 3.42 and the truck in general.
  • Awesome truck.
I just picked up a 15 Tradesman CC, SB, 4x4 CTD with Aisin.
With a few extras, chrome and comfort package, back up camera/sensor, U connect 5.0, OWL tires I got it for $45,310. $9k off sticker.
Traded in a 1500 Hemi and was concerned the ride would be too rough but after 1300 miles in the first 10 days, I love it. Averaging about 19 mpg combined driving.
    Plenty of power.
Get it, you won't regret it.

The dealer told me he had a 3500 without carpet so I probably wouldn't want to look at it. I didn't tell him but it's what I was looking for. Every vehicle I bought ends up with fancy mats to protect the carpet. Get's about 17 mpg and 10 towing at 68 mph in 5th gear 1800 rpm. 22,000 pounds rolling

I once had a pickup with a rubber mat floor and I put down a large carpet mat front and rear over the rubber floor. It worked well, and when I managed to track tar on the carpet I simply replaced it. It kept my feet warm in winter, it was easy to clean, and it actually looked good.
  • With most diesel pickups running the $ mid 50's, the payments are really high.

$50K for 60 months at normal interest rates will get you about a $950 monthly payment.
  • Unless I'm missing something, that sounds like a pretty good deal!
How much down were you putting down, or trade in value?
If that was zero down or trade I'd be pretty excited.
  • With all the grunt of that engine and the low 1st of the tranny (plus it's an auto) 3.42 gears work out pretty well.
