The Chevy 5.3 with 3.42 gears mated to the six speed tranny should work fine for you. It would be nice though if GM offered the truck with 3.73 gears. Then it would be even better. The 5.3 is considered a bullet proof engine and has been around a long time. I had one 15 years ago.
