Well I will chime in too, I was not going to but your comment of trying to stop him from making a mistake.
Your going from a 350 to a half ton. Your not going to like how any halfton feels on that trailer. Granted you only tow 5% of the time so that may be 500km, but it will not be near the tow experiance. Not saying it can't be done or the half tons shouldn't do it, I just think you know what the 350 feels like and the half ton will not do it for you.
Dodge makes a great 6.4hemi in a 2500 coil spring rear truck. Drives like a dream and great gas mileage.
Regardless which truck you get 90% of them will get you 7 to 9 mpg hauling, chev, eco boost, dodge, Ford gasses. There are people who get better but they seem to be rare.
