Kipor generator question

Still considering a generator. Many RVers are opposed to the Kipor generator and yet many RV dealers sell the Kipor. It is less expensive than Honda or Yamaha and apparently just as quiet. Why would the dealers sell it if it was not satisfactory?? Just curious. Thanks in advance.
  • I would consider it a high stakes gamble because of the above reasons posted. Unless I could get a guarantee where I could return the generator and exchange it for a replacement (not play the "hope there are still parts around" lotto), I would not consider Kipor, or any other no-name Chinese model.

Instead, I'd probably consider the Champion 75531i, a 3100 watt inverter generator for about $900 + shipping. It might be more expensive than the 2800 watt Kipor, but Champion is a good company when it comes to service and parts.

Unless money is very tight, I'd highly recommend going the yellow route. It shouldn't be that much more than the Kipor.
  • Lots of people sell lots of things that aren't necessarily "satisfactory". It may be the only brand that is taking on new dealers. It may be the only brand that wasn't already being sold in the area. He may be able to mark them up more than other brands.
I don't have any experience with a Kipor but I have been around many Honda and Yamaha gen. over many years. They are extremely reliable, have great support if you ever do need it, and are nice and quiet. I've never seen any of the other brands offered at enough of a savings to take a chance.
  • I owned one. Sold it to brother in law. Still running good. He boondocks all winter in Arizona without any problems. I would buy another one if I needed one.
  • Nothing wrong with the Kipor. A friend has had one since 2004, its run reliable for over 500 hours with only normal maintinence. The issue we find now is that kipor has nearly pulled out of the US market, its really hard to find some parts.
  • Hi,

They sell it because they can make a profit.

I owned a Kipor 2800 watt unit for nearly ten years. I ran it perhaps 300 hours in that time frame. When it started to die I sold it and got a different generator and my nightmares began. I finally sold the Boiley generator for $100 at a garage sale. It was totally unreliable.

I finally purchased a Yamaha 3000 iSEB unit.

The Kipor was louder at low speed and louder at full load than the Yamaha is. I did have some minor issues with it but it started well, perhaps even better than the Yamaha I have now.

I chose to upgrade because of the boost feature on the Yamaha and because of space considerations. I do like the switches on the outlets--which means I can plug in the RV, turn on the generator--let it warm up and then just flip the power on.
