Lance Bed Plug Location

On our 1996 Lance, we load the camper and then open an access door near the floor on the left side to reach into the bed and plug the camper plug into the Lance bed plug.

Looks like our 1062 will not have the same access hatch. I guess the procedure is to partially load the camper and then reach into the bed while standing outside next to the truck and plug the camper into the Lance bed plug?

If that is how its done, I assume the bed plug should be located fairly high on the side of the truck bed so it is easier to reach from outside?

Thanks for any help,
Brad

I have the lance plug (but not a lance camper). I plug the cord into the truck bed first, hang it over the rail while loading the camper, then plug into camper when loaded.
  • So here's what I do. I do not like to drill unnecessary holes and mounting the plug was not necessary IMO. I run the pig tail up and over the front of the bed then when loading I attach the two and drop the line inside the bed. When the TC is not on the truck I secure the pig tail to the tie down in the front of the bed. It's worked for me for 12 years.
  • When dealer installed ours they mounted pretty low and back. Kind of a pain. When I added aux plug placed it higher, much easier to connect, but not enough to move the original.

I stop about 18" gap, plug in, verify lights and camper square to bed and usually drop the front to within an inch of floor before fully backing under. Depth between bed walls will dictate how high you can go plus reaching under bed rail.

That's the way I do it even though it came with an extension the previous owner used to reach farther back.I do have the hatch like you used to have to access the wheel well but I don't use it for that.

Not sure how long your new plug is, but an extension is never a bad idea.
  • Brad that's exactly how I do it and have the plug set up. It gives you the shortest possible run for the heavy charge wire off of the battery which allows you to use the fridge on 12v going down the highway if you so choose (I don't) but it also gives a faster charge to the battery vs an extension to the trailer hitch plug which uses much smaller gauge wires. Jut make sure to push the harness up against the bed so that you don't lower the TC onto it.
  • Brad, when we bought our camper, we had the dealer extend the camper cable so it would reach the 7 pin plug at the back of the truck bed that's used for trailer towing. So after we load the camper, I reach under and plug the camper plug into the trailer plug on the truck. I couldn't bring myself to drill into the truck bed to install the camper plug near the camper hatch.

  • How my old/sold lance was and how my new Backpack is. Between the front bed wall and the front of the camper. Reachable but not 'out in the open'.
