leveling a dually

Hi just read where it is advised to put levelling blocks under both wheels.
when levelling a dually.
Does everyone use this practice ,if so what type of blocks do you use

Thanks
  • The idea is your carrying weight on 2 tires. put blocks under 1 tires, now your carrying weight on one tire, which might over load it. But if a tire has too much weight on it and it don't move, is any damage done?

What I did was buy a camper that weighs enough that my dually is level when loaded, than just look for a level parking spot :).
  • Be sure to check and read the reviews on the Rapid Jack on Amazon.com

  • I just use the single "Lego Ramp Blocks"..on the outside tire...

Curious to see what others used...
  • I don't bother blocking the inner and outers either. I just do the outers unless it's no more trouble to do both. And you know what? The tires don't explode, or turn square, the axles don't bend, and nothing bad happens.
There are guys driving down the freeway with huge campers on singles... I don't recommend that but parking on them is fine.
  • Would I do everything that is advised I would die 20 years ago from sad life ;)
Little know, tires can take 5 times the rated load when rolling with low speeds.
In driving it is the heat that comes from too much flex that is killing tire cords.
So I would not worry about putting much weight on tire when parking, but that might affect comfort.
I am too lazy to put planks under both tires, but you do a test and let us know?
I don't carry blocks, but DIY all the maintenance, I know my parking brakes are in excelent condition.
  • After struggling with stacking plastic blocks for years, I switched to these. They work great and you get it right the first time, no more trial and error for the correct height. Andersen sells a camper leveler, but they provide less height than the Rapid Jack. I normally drive up on these vs backing, which can get you fouled up with OEM mud flaps. And yes, I block under both rear wheels.

  • I put blocks under both tires. I use scrap pieces of pressure treated 2 x 10 or 2 x 12 most of the time. I also carry come pieces of 3/4" "advantec" flooring (think heavy duty plywood) to use if I need too. I have some of the yellow plastic blocks that lock together like big Legos; I forget the brand. They work fine too you just have to put a stack under each tire.
