My camper has tail lights with integrated license plate holders. The plate moutns vertically on tabs that come off the tail light. Unfortunately the tabs are cheap plastic and the one side broke but not completely off so I saved my tag and put it in the back window of our camper on our initial ride home. I swapped the good frame over to the left side (can't use it on the right as there is a roof ladder on the right. Does anyone know of a similar licesne plate frame/ tail light that has a more solid metal frame? I would prefer to use the same holes in the camper body rather than make more holes and have to fill the ones being used now. My tail light has a 4 pin trailer pigtail that plugs directly into a socket on the camper (on each side). TIA

Don't know if Lance still makes them. They made a box or I call it a pod. They bolt to the existing holes on your camper. They come complete with taillights and license plate mount. They were expensive when I bought mine. I have a 2004 815.

I thought it was odd that my Keystone Outback TT has the license place on the passenger side. And all my previous camper has the license plate on the driver side:On the second photo (our Springdale), one of the plastic tabs broke and I ended up having to replace the entire light with a new one. I couldn't find a better way to fix it. I did get the light from my local RV dealership parts, an exact replacement. It held up fine for years after that, but I'm still leary to this day about those plastic tabs that hang the license plate. One thing to remember, if you move the license plate to the other side, it has to be lighted at night. Not a big issue if you get a replacement tail light and license holder together. Still, something you cannot ignore either.

Our camper, (1999 Summerwind 811) is mounted on a flatbed. We have traveled in every state in the Western US including Alaska and Canada. The plate has been on the truck all this time and not on the camper. Have never been stopped or ?? about the placement of the plate. Why move it? JMHO

Why not run some thin metal strips from the tail light's mounting screws to your license plate?

Some folks feel the need because the camper blocks the plate from view when its mounted to the bumper of the truck.

I registered my camper even when my friends questioned me as to why when they never registered theirs.

This just keeps me legal. :D

The one I have is the same type as DutchmanSport shows in the 2nd picture but is mounted vertical. Almost all the plates with the lens having a clear spot for illuminating the plate are made of plastic. As far as mounting some metal under that type tail light/license tag holder, The thing has a plastic frame and would stand out from the mount point and be subject to water getting in. I might buy and extra one and use a Dremel to hog out some slots (so it can remain flush mounted0 and put some meetal in OR I guess I can make some more holes and mount it horizontal as in the picture I already mentioned.

I would just leave the plate on the truck. Since Texas doesn't register truck campers, there's no sticker, plate, or anything required on the camper.
Some small town cop pulls you over, tell him you heard on the internet to leave it on the truck. :)
