One of my favorite reasons for stopping people that had "my attention" was ones that lacked a front plate (when required) or obstructed plate (visible 200' to the rear). Amazing how many people have another vehicle's plate on their vehicle, stolen vehicle, expired plates, homemade plates and mismatched plates. A simple stop and verify, unless you have that one time for me;

One of my friends never put front plates on his cars 'cause they didn't look "cool"
I asked him about tickets and he said "they will never stop me for that"
This past winter I noticed that all his cars now have their front plates.
Decided
not to ask him how he enjoyed the $124 ticket (he is a friend after all)
Many year ago I was walking into my dorm, and noticed a car in the loop that had modified his plate. He had (color matched) taped over the leading digit of his plate. Changing the "county" number.
So I pulled the tape off and wondered if he ever got stopped.
