Life expectancy of AC unit?

I am about to give up on travel trailers. The AC quit on this trailer after slightly less than 2 years. Thankfully, it was still under warranty. Now, it seems to have quit again, leaving us miserable in 100 degree heat. I think the next week or so will be tolerable since we'll be in the Colorado Rockies, but I dread the trip back home.

What have been your experiences with RV AC units?
  • Jayco 15 yr old worked fine. My 14 yr old FW replaced. Sons 14 yr old FW works fine
  • I had a 13,500 AC on my 1997 for over 15 yrs and it was still working great when I sold the TT. Actually I have owned many RVs in my 55 yrs of towing and camping in RVs and I can not remember ever having problems with the AC . Guess I was lucky
  • Do you check the voltage at the campgrounds you use? Low voltage will destroy a A/C. The old 1999 Hornet still had the original A/C when I sold it. Never had a issue with any of the 5 RV'S A/C systems I've owned.
  • We had a 2003 popup, and it had the original A/C on it last year when we sold it and bought a new TT. I hope it won't be a case of "they sure don't buil'em like they used to".
  • We have two 15 A/Cs on a 2005 MH that have been run a lot and doing fine. Have one 13.5 on a 2006 TT that also has a lot of hours and is doing fine.
