Lifting tension on Rockwood A frame

Does anyone know how, if even possible, to adjust the lifting tension a a 2014 Rockwood A194HW. I would like to make it easier to lift due to physical disabilities. The dealer could not provide an answer but promised to contact the manufacture. Forest River has no customer support, no online support, not even a phone number that I can find.
  • Forest River does include a step stool for just that purpose. I use it. Raising it part way and blocking it there and then going inside maybe a option, might be dangerous for me but I will check it out. It might be the easiest . I plan on going to a nearby campground tuesday or wednesday.
  • I saw a demo a week or so ago, maybe utube, the man raised his roof the usual way about half way then stepped inside and pushed it up the rest of the way.
  • It might help to lift the roof panel by you gaining a little more leverage by standing on a small step stool.

I am not very tall (5'4") and I have raised the roof without the stepping stool with a deep breath and a hard push HOWEVER, it's so much easier with a few more inches of height. No deep breath or heavy push to bring it up.
  • Rexlion & Brad T : Thanks for reply and concern.
Yes I did see the rods behind that curtain. I and the dealer mechanic believed that they are guide tubes for an enclosed cable. From each side of the trailer they go to the center and then disappear into the wall. Too many twists and turns to be torsion bar ? But you very well may have answered my question. The dealer mech poped the cap on one of the 3/4 X 10 inch square tubes that the tubes or rods tie into and said there was nothing inside to adjust. When I have the roof raised again I can draw a straight line on that rod, close roof and crawl inside and if it is still a straight line it would not be a t-bar. If the line is twisted it would be a t-bar and there will be no way to adjust. So, off to Home Depot to buy a 3' cheater bar to stick into the lift handle. Further thinking has me thinking you are right.
  • I have a 2014 Rockwood A122S hardside. At each end it has something like a torsion bar that is under tension when the top is closed and aids in lifting the roof. Yours should be the same. Look at both ends, there should be a short curtain across the end where the roof and wall come together. Lift it up at the corners and you should see a white metal rod about 3/8” in diameter, one at each corner. That is the ‘torsion bar’. I doubt that there is a way to tighten the tension on it. But not sure.
  • No cables or pulleys in an "a frame" style trailer. This is like Chalet or Aliner. The roof panels have some sort of counterbalance or spring tension, I'm sure, to assist the user's lifting strength when pushing those panels up into postion. Whether it's adjustable, I don't know. Seems like I read some time back that Chalet has an optional assist mechanism for their models, so it should be a possibility in theory at least. But Forest River might not offer such a device... they have only made these for, what, 3 or 4 years?
  • Where did you a number for tech support? Guess I will have to re-read the manual.
  • As I understand them, popups use a system of cables and pulleys to do this job. Link to types.

It seems to me that the only way to make it easier would be to add bigger wheels/cogs to the system somewhere.

What is "lifting tension" are you asking how to preload the spring bars? Or how to Jack the trailer to change a tire?
BTW Forest River tech support is fantastic for 99.9% of us. I can call them and still have parts In a week for my 9 year old river.

I asked the same question on the other post. I then looked up the unit the OP has and saw that it is a hard wall pop up and I think the OP is asking about raising the top and the walls and then closing it all up later. I am not familiar with them, but there must be some way to adjust tension on them. My best guess would be to contact the manufacturer. JMO
