We just purchased a 1992 Chateau privately. We are coming from a pop-up camper so don't know all the ins and out yet.. Inside of the camper there is a single black switch that turns red when flipped. The switch is beside the window above the sink and stove area. Camper is in storage right now so can't get pics till this weekend. Does anyone know what this switch is for? We can't seem to figure out what it goes to.

That is a description of our water pump switch. Put some water in the fresh water tank, turn it on, and open a faucet. Should start running. It will actually most likely start running before you open a faucet because it will be pressurizing the lines.Depending on how your rig is plumbed or if you have a winterizing kit installed, you may have to open a valve from the outlet side of the pump first. OR there may be a valve that needs opening on the inlet side of the pump from the water tank.On our trailer the water heater switch is in the same area but is a two position switch. One side puts the heater in electric mode, the other side in gas mode.It might help if you put that information in a signature. You would be amazed at the number of members who may have the exact same rig and can answer your questions for sure.:)Almost forgot. Welcome to the forums! :)Barney

Thanks guys! I bet your right. The water and sewer stuff is what is all new to us. Gonna be a learning process. The pop-up only had a sink that we never used.

I would say water heater. Our heater has the switch that turns red when you flip it on. Our pump is on the same panel as the blk/grey/fresh water levels. You should have a pump and a heater switch. If you can please take pics of all this type of switch and panel and it may help figure things out for you.

if it turns out to be the water heater switch don't flip it on until you get the hot water tank full because if you do you will burn up the tank

many trailers of that vintage had an electric wall plate with a 2 way switch…
in one position the water heater worked on electric…
in the other position the power was diverted to the microwave…

you couldn’t have power to both at the same time…

Mine has two switches in the locality you describe. One is just a rocker switch labeled "water pump", the other is a momentary switch with red light labeled "water heater". When I flip the water heater switch the red light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out. If the water heater does not light,(gas operation), the red light comes back on. The electric side of the water heater is a switch in a different locale (looks like a regular light switch) labeled only "on"(switch up) and "off" switch down. Confused enough yet?

Probably too late. That is why it Is a good reason to never turn on switches that you are not sure what they do.

Same here. Water heater switch is lit and water pump is just a simple rocker.
